Fire Shuts Down Buford Highway Near I-85, Lanes Reopen
A fire started on the Buford Spring Connector underneath the I-85 bridge led crews to close lanes while they extinguished it on Thursday.
ATLANTA, GA — Lanes have reopened on the Buford Spring Connector after a fire started under the Interstate-85 bridge Thursday, according to officials.
The Atlanta Fire Rescue tweeted that crews were sent to extinguish a trash fire on the Buford Hwy Connector near Lakeshore Drive. Both southbound lanes are back open. The northbound lanes remain closed as firefighters are picking up hose lines.
According to WSB, white smoke was seen coming from beneath the interstate. Northbound traffic was diverted off the connector at Piedmont Road.

There was another fire in the same area over I-85 on Friday. It was caused by “outside burning,” according to officials.
