Football Season is Back in Dawg Country
A new study finds that Georgia Tech is the 'top bug' when it comes to athletes' success after graduation.

College football is back and my beloved Georgia Bulldogs are one of the best teams in the nation. Sure it has only been a couple weeks, but the team is looking dominant and poised to compete not only for an SEC Championship, but for a playoff berth as well. Jake Fromm has been slinging it with nearly an 80% completion rate and has his teammates believing that they are going to make it back to the national championship game.
In fact, Fromm has been playing so well that he’s starting to truly secure his position as the starting quarterback. Much of the Dawgs offseason conversation centered around the two immensely talented quarterbacks on the roster: Fromm, who of course led the team to the championship game, and Justin Fields, a highly touted freshman. While Fields has seen some action, Fromm has been so good that Fields hasn’t been needed. But, the good thing about this situation is that Fields has looked ready when he has been in the game. Georgia has two star quarterbacks and so far that hasn’t been a problem.
Recently, I moved to Atlanta. While there are plenty of University of Georgia alums and fans in the area, sadly it also means I’m closer to Georgia Tech. While the Yellow Jackets can’t hold a candle to the Dawgs when it comes to athletes (I have no problems letting my bias show), I did recently come across an amusing study that proved that Georgia Tech is the top bug. And by top bug I mean they have had the most success out of any school that has a bug mascot or nickname.

The study which was put together by pest control company Insight Pest Solutions (which makes it even funnier) shows that Georgia Tech has by far sent the most players to the pros when it comes to football, basketball, and baseball. They have sent double, triple, or sometimes more than the second-highest school. Even as a Bulldog fan, I can give them credit where credit is due. Hats off to you, Yellow Jackets, for being the best bug of them all.
When it comes to this year’s football season, Georgia Tech is looking shaky. They were never expected to be great this year, but they’re off to a 1-1 start with a win over Alcorn State and a loss to USF. But, there wasn’t good news for the Yellow Jackets this week as one of their lead running backs, KirVonte Benson, was ruled out for the season with an injury. The injury was not specified but it will require surgery. A tough loss for them and I wish him a speedy recovery.

While Georgia Tech might be facing adversity, I’ll be cheering for the University of Georgia to roll them over in our annual game, along with the rest of our schedule. Here’s hoping the top bug Yellow Jackets are merely an inconvenience on our way back to the playoffs. Go Dawgs!
