FreakNik 2020 Returns To Atlanta; Tickets On Sale Now
FreakNik World, Atlanta's three-day music festival, returns in June. Tickets are on sale now.
ATLANTA, GA — FreakNik 2020 returns to Atlanta for its three-day music festival this summer. Organizers announced Friday that passes are now on sale. They’ve renamed it FreakNik World (Fearlessly Reliving & Embracing Atlanta’s Kulture).
The event will run from June 19-21. More than 40 artists will perform at Morris Brown College. There will be vendors, food trucks, car and art shows. Last year, more than 18,000 people attended.
The original Freaknik was held every summer, for several years in Atlanta before it discontinued. In 2010, then-Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed banned any related activities from taking place within the city.

Mainly college students gathered on the streets of Buckhead, Midtown, East Atlanta, Cascade, Virginia Highland and downtown Atlanta. It began as a local event in 1983, but grew in numbers when tourists caught on to the annual tradition. Traffic became a nightmare for commuters, there was loud music and in some instances, even crime. The city stepped in and enforced heavy police presence. The popular event faded.
It was brought back in 2019 by Atlanta-based promoter Carlos Neal, through his company After 9 Partners. It’s promoted as more of a family-friendly function.
