Hi there, Atlanta. I'm here in your inbox per usual to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on around town, including news on:

  • A book signing with Atlanta-based novelists
  • Monday Night Brewing's month-long donation initiative
  • A SWAT standoff with a burglary suspect

But first, today's weather:

Chilly with occasional rain. High: 48 Low: 40.

Here are the top five stories in Atlanta today:

  1. Notable Atlanta-based authors will be discussing and signing their books at the Alpharetta Branch Library from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. "A Novel Idea" guests include Christopher Swann and Kimberly Belle, award-winning suspense novelists, and C. Matthew Smith, nominee for Georgia Author of the Year. Copies of the authors' books will be available at the library to purchase and have signed. (Atlanta Patch)
  2. Monday Night Brewing is donating $3 to Atlanta Community Food Bank for every pint of Death Raptor sold at local restaurant partners. The "Death to Hunger" initiative by the brewery also receives donations when cases are sold and pints are purchased at other locations. Buying one pint of Death Raptor would help provide four meals to families in the Atlanta area. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  3. SWAT units were involved in a standoff yesterday when a suspect accused of burglary barricaded himself in a home near Delmar Lane. Two men were later taken away in handcuffs for unknown reasons. Authorities are still investigating. (Atlanta Patch)
  4. A man was allegedly murdered yesterday in downtown Atlanta. The incident occurred at 29 Marietta Street near Woodruff Park. Police are investigating what led to the brutal murder of the unidentified man, which appeared to be from a blunt force trauma to the head. (11Alive.com WXIA)
  5. A new survey by Insight Global found 70 percent of job seekers in Atlanta don't apply for their dream job. The survey was conducted in October and polled a total of 1,006 Atlanta jobseekers. The most common reason for not applying was being intimidated by the job search – an overall lack of confidence and not having a college degree followed close behind. (Metro Atlanta CEO)
