Frigid Metro ATL To Warm Up, Face Fall Showers Amid Fire Danger Alert

After a brief stint of cool air, the afternoons may be warm and wet this week in the metro - disrupting Atlanta's chance to see an eclipse.

ATLANTA, GA — Residents may have awaken to a chilly Monday morning, but forecasters told Patch temperatures will warm up daily in the afternoons, and rain is expected to shower the metro area this week.

But before then, metro Atlanta residents are asked to use caution Monday while burning materials outdoors as the National Weather Service has issued a fire danger hazardous weather outlook.

The alert is due to low relative humidity levels and gusty winds. Steven Nelson, a meteorologist with the weather service's Peachtree City office, said the elevated risk fire danger is common for this time of year.

He encouraged people to monitor fires and know their local burn ban guidances.

The high temperature Monday is 74 degrees while the low is 53 degrees.

As the week goes, Nelson said temperatures will creep near the 80s before dropping into the 70s Wednesday, when a three-day period of cloudy rain is expected to begin.

The rainy days will be due to warm moisture coming from the south into the metro, overrunning the cool dry air in the atmosphere.

Severe storms are not expected, but showers are anticipated overnight Wednesday into Thursday, as well as in the afternoon hours daily, making for a wet commute. The rain could pour all day Friday, when the probability stands at 60 percent.

An annular solar eclipse expected Saturday morning may be difficult to see in the metro due to rain possibility. As of early Monday morning, the rain chance Saturday is 20 percent.

Nelson said the annular eclipse is when the moon will partially cover the sun, creating shadows on the ground. He advises people to not look directly at the sun without the proper eye coverings.

NASA plans a live broadcast of the eclipse.
