Fulton Co. Schools Accounting & Retirement Department Wins Award

The awards were presented to the school system by several organizations.

From FCS: The Financial Services division of Fulton County Schools (FCS) has recently won several national recognitions, including one of the nation’s highest honors, that acknowledge its efforts to provide the public with comprehensive user-friendly financial information.

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) have awarded the Fulton County School District and FCS Board of Education respectively the recognition for Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending in 2017-the most recently-assessed year-making it the 10th consecutive year FCS has received both awards.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Award by ASBO, in particular, is one of the highest levels of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

FCS Superintendent Dr. Jeff Rose said, “We are proud of the entire Finance team for consistently managing this document preparation, ensuring full disclosure and high standards of financial management, all of which aligns with our Strategic Plan 2022’s pillar of ‘Fiscal Responsibility.’ They demonstrate year after year the value our school system and school board place on fiscal accountability. Our teams have done an extraordinary job in this and other areas.”

The Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting Award by ASBO and the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Award by GFOA represent the commitment of the School Board and its staff at meeting the highest principles of financial reporting. Each organization used an impartial panel of reviewers to evaluate the school system’s financial documents and determined that they served effectively as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communication tool.

“These awards reflect our commitment to responsible and transparent fiscal management,” said Fulton County School Board President Linda Bryant. “These awards are an acknowledgement of the hard work and professionalism of our Finance Department and their sound stewardship of the district’s resources.”
