Atlanta Coronavirus Update: Remote Learning, Drive-Thru Testing

ATLANTA, GA – As Atlanta residents continue to adhere to the shelter-in-place order to help stop the spread of the new coronavirus, cases of the virus continue to rise, schools embrace remote learning and hospitals ramp up drive-thru testing. Here's the latest on the coronavirus response in Atlanta.

There are 1916 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus and 63 coronavirus-related deaths in Fulton County, as of Thursday morning, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. In Fulton County, these numbers mean there are more than 176 positive cases of the coronavirus for every 100,000 people.

Here's the breakdown of deaths in Fulton County by age:

• 30-39: 3 deaths
• 50-59: 4 deaths
• 60-69: 12 deaths
• 70+: 43 deaths
• * 1 Fulton County death was not reported with the person's age

SCHOOLS

Governor Brian Kemp has announced that all K-12 schools in Georgia will remain closed for in-person instruction for the remainder of this school year.

Atlanta Public Schools food distribution is available on Mondays only at 10 sites. Breakfast and lunch meals will be available from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. So far, APS has prepared and distributed more than 160,000 breakfast and lunch meals each week, as well as thousands of groceries.

HOSPITALS

Emory Healthcare has opened a drive-thru testing site for people suspected of having COVID-19 by appointment only. The site is located at a parking lot in Atlanta. In order to receive an appointment, patients must first utilize Emory's COVID-19 screening tool and call the COVID line at 404-712-6843 for evaluation by the nursing team.
