Fundraiser Set Up For Ex-Officer Charged In Rayshard Brooks Death

ATLANTA, GA – An online fundraiser has been created in support of former Atlanta Police Officer Garrett Rolfe, who faces 11 charges – including felony murder – in the death of Rayshard Brooks on Friday after a confrontation in a Wendy's parking lot.

The fundraiser is hosted on the Georgia Law Enforcement Organization website. The organization supports the state's law enforcement officers in their personal and professional lives.

"Officer Rolfe was involved in the justified shooting of Rayshard Brooks on June 12th, 2020," the fundraiser organizers said.

The fundraiser is designed to help Rolfe and his family pay for legal services.

On Wednesday, Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard said his investigation shows Brooks never posed a threat to former Officer Garrett Rolfe or Officer Devin Brosnan.

The two white officers had responded to calls about a man who was asleep at the wheel in the Wendy's drive-thru lane, later identified as Brooks. Police video showed him cooperating until a breath test determined his blood-alcohol level was over the legal limit and one of the officers moved to handcuff him. Brooks was wrestled to the ground, broke free and took off with a stun gun; Rolfe shot him as he tried to run away.
