Within 24 hours of the breastmilk being delivered to the child's grandmother, who was caring for the woman's other daughter, the child became critically ill, police said. There were suspicions that the child had been poisoned, police said.

"Jack admitted to adding antifreeze to the breastmilk to South Fulton Police Department detectives," police said in a news release.

He told detectives he added the antifreeze to keep from paying child support; however, he later recanted his confession, Channel 2 Action News reported.

During the trial, Jack was convicted and sentenced to 50 years with 40 years to serve in custody, police said.

Jack, who is from Hampton, was booked into the Fulton County Jail on suspicion of first-degree cruelty to children and criminal attempt to commit murder after being released from jail on Nov. 25, 2020, jail records show.

Police did not say the child's status, but Channel 2 reported the child's mother said the child would be fine.
