GA Democrats Name Nikema Williams To Replace John Lewis On Ballot
Georgia Democrats selected Nikema Williams to replace the late John Lewis on the November ballot. They had one business day to decide.

ATLANTA, GA — The Georgia Democratic Party selected Nikema Williams, a state senator from Atlanta, to appear on the November ballot. She will fill the late Representative John Lewis’s seat, reported the New York Times.
The party had until Monday afternoon to make a decision. They received 131 applications.
Lewis died Friday at the age of 80 from pancreatic cancer. State law called for the Georgia Democratic Party to appoint a replacement nominee on the first business day after his death

The nominating committee had narrowed down the list of candidates to:
- Park Cannon - state representative
- Andre Dickens - serves on Atlanta City Council.
- Robert Franklin - Emory University professor and former president of Morehouse College.
- Nikema Williams - state senator and the chair of the Georgia Democratic Party.
- James “Major” Woodall - President of the Georgia NAACP.
The congressman represented Georgia’s 5th District since he was first elected in 1987.

The winner will face the Republican Angela Stanton-King in November, reported The Guardian. She is a reality TV personality who President Donald Trump pardoned earlier this year for her role in a stolen car ring. She served six months of home confinement in 2007.
