GA Doc Found Liable For Posting Decapitated Baby’s Autopsy: Report

A judge found a metro Atlanta doctor liable after he was accused of posting the autopsy of a decapitated baby on Instagram, a report says.

METRO ATLANTA, GA — A metro Atlanta physician was found liable after being accused of posting a video of a decapitated baby's autopsy on Instagram, Atlanta News First reported Thursday.

This comes a month after the death of the newborn who was decapitated during delivery in July 2023 at Southern Regional Medical Center was ruled a homicide.

Parents Jessica Ross and Treveon Taylor Sr. sued Dr. Jackson Gates and Gates Rapid Diagnostic Laboratory in September 2023, alleging their privacy was invaded and fraud and emotional distress were inflicted upon them.

A copy of the 26-page motion was shared Thursday by Atlanta News First. The outlet reported Ross paid Gates $2,500 to conduct a private autopsy, after which Gates was accused of posting the autopsy on his public social media page.

Gates acknowledged the posting to Atlanta News First, the outlet reported.

“I only showed a picture of the baby’s face and addressed the issue," he previously told the media outlet. "I did not divulge any information of the baby’s identity or divulge anything about the family."

The infant was previously identified by the Clayton County Medical Examiner's Office as Treveon Isaiah Taylor Jr., according to past reports.

Ross and Treveon Taylor Sr. sued Southern Regional in August 2023 after claiming a physician broke their baby's face, head and neck bones during the delivery.

The couple claimed they were not informed of what happened to their newborn until about four days later.

Their attorneys claimed at a past news conference the baby's shoulders could not fit through the pelvic girdle. This is known as shoulder dystocia, during which a baby's shoulders can get stuck during a vaginal delivery.

Attorneys said the body was delivered without a head, which led to an emergency Cesarean procedure to complete the baby's delivery.
