GA Launches 2026 Homeowner Tax Relief Rollout

Eligible Georgia homeowners will receive relief through a lower assessed homestead value on 2026 tax bills.

ATLANTA, GA — Georgia will begin sending money this week to local governments under the 2026 Homeowner Tax Relief Grant program, Gov. Brian Kemp announced Monday.

The rollout of property tax relief was approved in the Amended Fiscal Year 2026 budget and will be administered by the Georgia Department of Revenue.

The one-time program offers an $18,000 drop in the assessed homestead values for eligible Georgia homeowners for the 2026 tax year, Kemp said. The relief is directly applied to property tax bills.

The DOR is currently processing applications and distributing funds. According to Kemp's office, homeowners who have a qualifying homestead exemption do not need to file a separate application to receive the grant.

The grants will not come as a separate check or direct deposit but will rather appear as a reduction on a homeowner's property tax bill, Kemp said.

While some homeowners may have already seen the reduction applied to their bills, Kemp said local governments will continue to issue the tax bills for others.

“Along with our partners in the General Assembly, we are delivering on our promise to make life more affordable for hardworking Georgians by providing needed relief for homeowners from property taxes,” he said in a news release. “Because of our commitment to creating jobs and budgeting conservatively, we are able to take steps such as these to keep more money in Georgians' pockets.”
