GA Teens Temporarily Don't Need To Take Road Test: Coronavirus
Georgia teens won't have to take the road test to receive their driver's license during the coronavirus pandemic.
ATLANTA, GA — Georgia teens will no longer need to take a road test to apply for their driver’s license. The road tests have been put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to an executive order issued by Gov. Brian Kemp.
"What the executive order does, it allows the teen driver to go to that next phase without having to take that road test because of social distancing problems, obviously, in trying to provide the test," Spencer Moore, the commissioner at the Department of Driver Services, tells WSB.
The new Georgia teen drivers will need to provide affidavits that they have completed about 40 hours of driver training either by a parent or instructor.

Those who qualify can apply for a provisional license on the DDS website. They can print out a temporary license once approved. The official one will arrive by mail in a couple of weeks.
Moore said that practice time on the road prepares most young drivers, making them ready and confident for the test.

“Many of them are trained in those settings and they are ready to go,” he said. “We see a very high pass rate. We see more than 80 percent on their first round go.”
