GA Weather: Next Snow Chance Plus Wind Advisory

A wind advisory is in place with gusts up to 35 mph. Plus, snow is in the GA weather forecast later this week.

GEORGIA — Black ice caused numerous accidents across the Atlanta metro and north Georgia Monday morning before temperatures climbed above freezing. But winter isn't done with the Peach State.

There is a chance of some wintry precipitation across the area late Thursday through Friday night, the National Weather Service said. It's too early to tell if that will be freezing rain, snow or a mix, forecasters said.

The site PowerOutage.US, which track power outages across the country, reported over 19,000 Georgia utility customers without electricity at 11:30 a.m. Monday. Counties in north and far northeast portions of the state had the bulk of the outages.

A wind advisory will continue until 7 p.m. Monday in metro Atlanta and north Georgia, according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts of 30 to 35 miles per hour from the west/northwest are expected, with higher speeds possible in the mountains in north central, northeast, northwest and west central Georgia.

Friday looks to be the next serious chance for snow in the Atlanta region, with forecasters calling for snow in the morning and again late in the day as cold air moves in at the end of the week dropping highs into the 30s.
