From GCO: Georgia Commute Options (GCO), a program managed by the Atlanta Regional Commission, is encouraging metro Atlanta commuters to Get on Board and try transit starting, April 22 – May 3, 2019. Through the new Get on Board promotion, GCO is working with employers and property managers to incentivize commuters to try one of the many transit options around the metro area, including MARTA, Xpress, CobbLinc and Gwinnett County Transit.
GCO’s Get On Board promotion stems from The American Public Transportation Association’s National Get On Board Day on April 25, 2019. Get On Board Day is a national awareness and advocacy day that aims to generate awareness and increase support for public transportation among riders and non-riders, elected officials and stakeholders.
“With Atlanta being recognized as one of the top five fastest-growing metro areas in the nation, it is crucial that employers and residents work together to adopt clean commute options, including transit, that reduce traffic congestion and improve regional air quality,” said Jill Goldberg, Marketing Director of Georgia Commute Options. “Our Get on Board initiative aims to drive change by connecting directly with employers to help their staff realize the benefits of a clean commute by giving them a custom trip plan and free pass to try transit.”

According to research from the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy, only 18% of Atlantans use public transit, bike or walk to get to work, while 25% live within a roughly 10-minute bike ride or walk of a frequent transit stop. This indicates a significant growth opportunity for expanded transit use in metro Atlanta.
Beyond the benefits for employees at participating workplaces, Georgia Commute Options offers commuters in the metro Atlanta area cash incentives to Get on Board with a new commute. Eligible commuters can earn $5 a day – up to $150 – when they try a clean commute option such as transit. See if you’re eligible and register for the program today.
