Georgia Dome Implosion: How You Can Watch It

Downtown streets will be closed Monday morning for the implosion, and MARTA rail service will be interrupted.

ATLANTA, GA — After 25 years of hosting big-ticket events that included the Super Bowl, the Olympics and the NCAA men's Final Four basketball tournament, the Georgia Dome is scheduled to disappear Monday morning in a controlled explosion. Roads downtown will be closed around the stadium, which will affect the morning commute as the implosion is scheduled for 7:30 a.m.

There will be no public viewing area for the implosion of the dome, and the Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) which oversees the stadium, has banned unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) from flying over the Georgia Dome on Monday morning. The implosion will be broadcast live on WSB-TV Channel 2 and live-streamed on several other sources, including the Georgia Dome's official Facebook page.

Touted to be the largest cable-supported domed stadium in the world, the Georgia Dome opened in 1992. It served as the home venue for the Atlanta Falcons and Georgia State University football, and hosted two Super Bowls, the gymnastics and basketball events for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games and both a men's and women's NCAA Final Four.
