Georgia State Police Trooper Injured In Fiery Crash After Pursuit
The trooper sustained a head injury when his patrol car caught fire after crashing on an off-ramp following a pursuit of a motorcycle.
ATLANTA – A Georgia State Patrol trooper suffered a head injury after his patrol car caught fire after being involved in an accident following a pursuit of a motorcycle early Tuesday morning, a department spokeswoman said.
The trooper, who has not been identified, was in pursuit of a motorcycle in a chase that began near I-20 West and Martin Luther King Drive at 6:07 a.m. According to police, the pursuit traveled west on I-20 to I-285 North and continued on the highway until both the motorcycle and the patrol car exited at Bolton Rd.
Both vehicles independently crashed on the ramp and the patrol car caught fire as a result, according to Lt. Stephanie Stallings. Stallings said in an email that the trooper sustained a head injury and has been taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and released after being treated for a head injury and injury to his right arm and side. The suspect is still at large, but Troopers were able to identify him.

The motorcyclist fled on foot and remains at large, but troopers were able to identify the suspect and charges are pending, Stallings said. The reason for the attempted traffic stop is not known at this time.
