Gladys Knight Suing Her Son's Restaurant

The musical icon wants her name removed from "Gladys Knight Chicken & Waffles."

ATLANTA, GA — Gladys Knight is suing her son to remove her name from the Gladys Knight Chicken & Waffles restaurant name.

The federal lawsuit was filed last week, according to Hampshire Chronicle.

The move comes in the wake of a June 2016 raid by the Georgia Department of Revenue on the restaurant. Knight's son, Shanga Hankerson, is facing several charges of theft.

Hankerson is accused of failing to pay sales and withholding taxes of more than $650,000 and using the money for personal use. With penalties and interest, Hankerson is said to owe more than $1 million.

Knight's lawsuit, according to Courthouse News Service, claims the restaurant is using her trademark without her permission.
