Gov. Kemp Calls Atlanta's Violent Weekend Unacceptable; Girl Dies

Over the weekend, 25 were shot in Atlanta, including the death of an 8-year-old girl.

ATLANTA, GA — After a violent weekend in Atlanta, Gov. Brian Kemp addressed the shootings in a Sunday night tweet.

“This recent trend of lawlessness is outrageous & unacceptable,” he said. “Georgians, including those in uniform, need to be protected from crime & violence.”

Several people were killed and dozens injured in shootings.

According to Atlanta police, a girl, 8, was shot and killed Saturday near the Wendy’s where Rayshard Brooks died last month. A second shooting in the same area happened 24 hours later, reported WSB. Three were shot at and one died. And over the holiday weekend, 25 were shot across the Atlanta, with three of the shootings being deadly.

Kemp tweeted that the shootings are “unacceptable” and called the incidents a trend of lawlessness.

The attorney representing the family of Ahmaud Arbery, Lee Merritt, replied to the governor’s tweet and use of the term “lawlessness.”
