Head Down South If You’re Interested in Interior Design
A new study ranks Atlanta as the 11th best city for interior design

If you’re an interior designer or interested in pursuing a career in this ever-changing field, you’ve probably wondered which cities have the most to offer.
As is the case with most fields of work, where you live plays a tremendous role in the career mobility and success of interior designers. That’s why it’s important to think through the following questions if you are, or hope to one day be, an interior designer: Which city will provide me with the most design inspiration? Or, alternatively, which cities are the most design-forward?
Because at the end of the day, if you’re not feeling inspired by your environment, it’s going to be much more difficult to get the job done. So, which cities are the most design-forward, you ask?

Well, thanks to a recent study on the subject, this question finally has an answer. And as it turns out, Atlanta fares pretty well. As the 11th best city for interior design nationwide, it just misses the top 10 cut off. Nevertheless, if you’re an interior designer looking to live in the South, it doesn’t get much better than Atlanta. With only 2 cities ranking higher: Jacksonville and Charlotte, A-Town is the third-best city in the South for interior design.
And considering all of the renowned interior design schools across the state of Georgia, it makes sense that Atlanta is one of the top cities in the country for this field of work. Not only is Georgia home to reputable interior design programs like those offered by the University of Georgia and Georgia Southern, but the state also houses Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), which is the second-highest-rated school for interior design in the country. And judging by Atlanta’s commendable ranking on the list of top cities for interior design, it’s safe to say that many of these SCAD grads probably decided to stick around and leave their creative mark on the Peach State.

In addition to Georgia’s well-respected interior design schools, the state also has a plethora of top-notch interior design firms, especially in Atlanta. Between AJW Designs, Balance Design, CG Creative, and Erika Ward Interiors, there’s no shortage of talented designers to meet the needs of Atlanta home and business owners.
But what other cities are great for interior design?

Well, the truth is, if you're an interior designer looking to explore other parts of the country, you should consider moving out West. Out of all the US regions, the West holds some of the best cities for interior design. From Seattle to Portland, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Denver and more, your options are pretty much limitless. But if you’d rather move up North, you should look into Milwaukee, which happens to be the fourth-best city for interior design in the country.
At the end of the day, though, there’s really no place like the Peach State. So if you’re an interior designer with “Georgia on your mind,” there’s no better time to move to Atlanta.
