Helping Kids and Teens Process Emotions and Serve as Advocates

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta Offers Virtual Safe Space for Kids

As our nation works to process and respond to the murders of George Floyd and Ahmuad Arbery…and so many others before them…Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta believes it is extremely imperative to speak up and take action against racism and inequity.

We have been hosting weekly “Safe Space” virtual discussions with our teens to provide a place for them to talk about their emotions, work through trauma, and come up with actionable ways they can make a difference. We are launching community events, such as our “No Dodging Racism” Dodgeball game at our Malon D. Mimms Boys & Girls Club in Cherokee County. We are also partnering up with companies like Willy’s Mexicana Grill who will be distributing “Conversation Cards” in all taco boxes developed by BGCMA’s Equality and Accountability Alliance, as well as New Balance who is donating footwear to community-based organizations in honor or Ahmaud Arbery.

We encourage you to talk with the kids and teens in your life. Here’s 10 best practices you can use during your discussion.
