Home Invaders Who Scared Man Into Fatal Jumping Convicted

The victim told 911 the men were breaking into his apartment. Then, he jumped from his balcony, and police found him dead when they arrived.

ATLANTA, GA -- Two men have convicted of breaking into a man's home and frightening him so much that he jumped from his third-floor balcony to his death. On Tuesday, Mark Spencer Jr. and Lil' Che Stafford were convicted of murdering Jose Raman Greer, 51, on Dec. 8, 2015, when they, allegedly along with Frederick Clark, broke into Greer's apartment on Oak Street in SW Atlanta. As they attempted to pry the front door open, Greer stood on the balcony of his third-story apartment and told a 911 operator what was happening. Greer told the dispatcher that he was going to leap from the balcony to escape the defendants who were trying to enter his home.

Greer eventually jumped from the third-floor balcony to escape the intruders. As Greer was laying on the ground, Spencer, and Stafford, along with allegedly Clark, entered the apartment while 22-year-old Maxx Pritchett and 18-year-old Vas Coleman waited outside in a getaway car. The men ransacked Greer’s home and stole several items including Greer's debit card and identification.

After the defendants left the apartment and were attempting to flee, Greer, still alive, asked the defendants for help. Instead, the defendants fled with several items belonging to Greer. When police arrived, Greer told them he jumped from his balcony. He died the next morning from blunt-force injuries.

A day after the murder, Stafford and Coleman allegedly tried to sell Greer’s belongings. They first attempted to sell his debit card, laptop, and iPhone to a barber in SW Atlanta. Stafford told the barber he acquired the items during a “lick” a day earlier. The barber chose not to purchase the items, so Stafford and Coleman sold Greer’s laptop and iPhone at a nearby electronics repair store. The defendants also purchased food at a McDonald’s using Greer’s debit card.
