Home Run: Braves' Harris Named NL Rookie Of The Year

ATLANTA, GA — Atlanta Braves outfielder Michael Harris II is the 2022 National League Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year.

The announcement was made Monday night on the MLB Network. Harris, 21, was named by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

According to the organization, Harris won the honor against his teammate, pitcher Spencer Strider. This year marks year nine that a Braves player has received the award.

Harris was the single player listed on all of the ballots, according to the association. He is the ninth outfielder to be awarded Rookie of the Year.

The last Braves player to win the award was Ronald Acuña Jr. in 2018, according to MLB.

According to the network, Harris garnered 22 of the 30 first-place votes cast by the Writers' Association while Strider secured eight votes.

Out of 114 games played with the Braves, Harris 19 home runs, 123 hits, 414 at bats, 20 stolen bases and 64 RBIs. His batting average was 0.297, and he finished fifth on his team in hits, according to ESPN.

Harris was born in DeKalb County and graduated from Stockbridge High School in Stockbridge.
