Signed books make the best gifts, so – just in time for the holidays – A Novel Idea, the Atlanta Writers Club and Bookmiser will spotlight three local authors and one illustrator Thursday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. at Brimstone Restaurant and Tavern, Alpharetta.

The featured creators and books include Coe Steinwart, illustrator of “The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition,” and authors Chris Negron, “Underdog City,” Maggie and Rosalind Bunn, “All Aboard, Tennessee!” and Kay Paschal, “Insert Giggle Giggle: Laughing Your Way through Raising Kids and Running a Business.”

In addition to winning a sleighful of awards when it debuted in 2005, “The Elf on the Shelf,” featuring Steinwart’s illustrations, went on to inspire everything from toys and games to animated specials and parade floats. Steinwart, the mother of four grown children, lives in Marietta, where she continues to "practice and discover the challenge and fun of watercolor painting."

Negron’s third middle-grade novel, “Underdog City,” features a vacant lot with a secret past, competing kid-run dog-walking services, a particularly ornery rooster, and a kid trying to hold his neighborhood together by reminding them what community truly means.

Rosalind Bunn is the author of 10 children’s books, five of which she’s collaborated on with her daughter, Maggie. The mother-daughter duo’s newest release, “All Aboard, Tennessee!” joins titles with similar storylines chugging through Georgia and Louisiana.

Paschal, previously the owner of a prestigious private preschool for 25 years, filled “Insert Giggle Giggle” with advice and funny family stories on a range of parenting topics and laugh-filled mistakes made and successes enjoyed while raising her two sons as well as observing and learning firsthand from thousands of parents at her preschool.

Attendees are encouraged to come early, have dinner, register for giveaways and, in the process, support metro Atlanta’s writing community. Bookmiser will have copies of all four authors’ titles for sale. For more information, go to anovelidea.us/events.

There is no charge to attend but registration is requested here.
