Jason Heyward Stung More Than 10 Times by Bees

The former Atlanta Braves outfielder was surrounded by a swarm of bees on Sunday, sending him, and fans, running for cover.

This never happened when he was playing for the Braves.

Jason Heyward, who recently signed a huge, multimillion-dollar contract with the Chicago Cubs, was stung more than 10 times by a swarm of bees during a Sunday afternoon preseason game.

The game was being played at the Cubs' spring training facility in Mesa, AZ, against the Seattle Mariners.

The Cubs report that the bees came buzzing through in the third inning, eventually heading into the stands and sending fans running for cover. Play was stopped for about five minutes.

Heyward was stung on his face and on the back of his head. Fortunately, he's not allergic to bee stings.

"They came over from right field," Heyward said. "I saw them moving around a little bit, but [right fielder Mark Zagunis] was doing what I was doing, which is wearing it because we knew the game was going on. I wasn't thinking to get out of there until it got crazy."

Heyward broke into the majors with the Atlanta Braves in 2010, and played here for four seasons before he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2015. This past offseason, the Cubs signed him to an eight-year, $184 million contract.
