Lung Association Soars to New Heights at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Stair climb event to raise money to end lung disease, COVID-19

Today, the American Lung Association in Georgia announced that it will host the iconic Fight For Air Climb event outdoors at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home to the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United FC on Saturday, June 4.

The Lung Association celebrates 19 years of this community event. Participants including first responders, firefighters and community members of all ages will climb to new heights as they take on over 2,600 steps. Funds from the Fight For Air Climb will support lifesaving lung health research, education and advocacy.

“We are thrilled to give our climbers the opportunity to experience the excitement of an NFL and MLS stadium first-hand as they climb the best set of stairs in all of Georgia,” shared Calle Wallace, Development Manager for the American Lung Association.

"In the line of duty, firefighters are regularly exposed to smoke, gasses, chemicals, and other substances that can be damaging to their lungs, making them at an increased risk for chronic issues; the work of the American Lung Association is critical to us," said Douglas Kerns, Engineer with the Dalton Fire Department. "Besides firefighters, the organization's work to support clean air and healthy lungs affects everyone, so we are proud to be involved with the Fight For Air Climb year after year. We hope to see our community come together for a fun and inspiring event."

Money raised at the Fight For Air Climb will fund the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the organization’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is a $25 million investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.
