Man Charged With Murder After SWAT Standoff

A woman was stabbed and killed, Atlanta police discovered during a SWAT standoff Saturday near North Avenue.

ATLANTA, GA — A 70-year-old man is being charged on suspicion of murder after a SWAT standoff Saturday in the 2000 block of North Avenue, Atlanta police said.

Police responded around 8:15 p.m. in reference to a welfare check, when they discovered a man was holding a woman hostage inside of a home, police said.

The man refused to leave the home, so SWAT forcefully entered the home and arrested the man, police said.

They found the woman dead with stab wounds, police said. Her identity is unknown. It is unclear if she was stabbed during the standoff.

Fulton County Jail records show Curtis Lilly, who police said was arrested in connection with the case, is being charged on suspicion of aggravated assault and murder.
