Atlanta Man Dies During Struggle With Police Officer: GBI
After a battle with an Atlanta police officer, the GBI said the man became unresponsive after being taken into custody.
ATLANTA, GA — A 62-year-old Atlanta man died during a use of force incident Thursday night involving an Atlanta police officer, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Friday.
The officer was dispatched around 11:15 p.m. to the Cunningham Place/Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard intersection on a traffic collision call, the GBI said.
Sometime during the investigation, there was a "physical struggle" between the officer and one of the drivers, which the GBI identified as Johnny Hollman.

The GBI said Hollman became non-compliant with the officer's commands. Hollman was accused of resisting arrest, which the GBI said led to the officer attempting to use a Taser during the incident.
"After the officer took Hollman into custody, police determined that Hollman had become unresponsive. Police called EMS personnel, and Hollman was taken to a local hospital, where he died," the GBI said in a news release.

No officers were injured during the incident, the GBI said. An autopsy is being conducted by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Atlanta News First reported the officer is on administrative leave.
The case file will go to the Atlanta Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review once the GBI's investigation is completed.
