Man Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting in East Point

The fatal encounter took place early Friday morning while officers were responding to a domestic disturbance call.

EAST POINT, GA -- A domestic disturbance turned deadly early Friday morning in East Point, as one man was killed and two officers were injured during the confrontation.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer-involved shooting, which took place at the Legends at Laura Creek Apartments.

A preliminary investigation reveals East Point police were dispatched to a domestic disturbance call between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Nov. 11 and upon arrival, those officers learned the "second party" to the initial incident left the area, the GBI states.

A description of the man was provided to police, and officers encountered a man matching the description a short time later.

Officers attempted to approach the suspect, who fled on foot. An East Point officer later "made contact" with the man in an upper level landing of an apartment building. That's when the man allegedly attacked the officer, forcing the other cop to taser the subject, the GBI notes.

At that point, the state agency said one of the two officers discharged a firearm multiple times, striking the male subject. The man was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The GBI notes it will continue with its investigation to determine what led up to the fatal shooting. Once its probe is complete, the case file will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office for review.
