Meet an “Amazing” Who’s Found His New Calling as a “Baby Buddy”
David Deutchman, 82, volunteers in the pediatric and neonatal ICUs at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

David Deutchman, 82, happened to walk in to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta after he left a rehab session for a leg injury, and asked if they had volunteer opportunities. That was 12 years ago. Since then, much to the delight of hospital staff, David has spent two days a week--year in, year out--in the pediatric and neonatal ICUs, holding babies and helping parents however he can.
Quite a switch from his career in international business that he retired from in 2000, followed by teaching stints as a guest lecturer at various universities.
Best of all, David says being puked and peed on hasn’t diminished his enthusiasm one iota for these tiny beings so in need of human warmth and affection.
