Mentally Disabled Man Sexually Assaulted At Work

ATLANTA, GA — State and local police are investigating a report that a 21-year-old man with a mental disability was raped at his job at a popular Atlanta restaurant.

WSB-TV reports that the young man works at No Mas! Cantina in the Castleberry Hill neighborhood. According to an Atlanta Police Department report obtained by the station, he had gone to the restroom to get ready to start his shift Sunday when he heard the door open.

A man then entered, kicked in a bathroom stall door and "snatched his pants" before assaulting him, the victim's father told WSB. The station is not identifying the victim. The father said his son is autistic and has the mental capabilities of a 14-year-old.

According to the police report, the attacker is possibly a driver for a food delivery service.

The father told WSB he was angry that the restaurant did not immediately call police, instead contacting a company that helps adults with special needs find jobs. A spokesman for the Walker Street restaurant, however, sent the station a message saying the restaurant "notified the appropriate authorities" as soon as the incident was reported and is cooperating with the investigation.

In addition to Atlanta Police, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is working on the case.
