GA Weather: 111-Degree Heat Index To Scorch Metro Atlanta

Metro Atlanta is under an excessive heat warning until 8 p.m. Monday.

ATLANTA, GA — While Metro Atlanta is under a heat advisory until 8 p.m. Monday, weather forecasters told Patch the metro area also has to be mindful of potential early week storms.

The advisory went into effect at 10 a.m. for Paulding, Cobb, Polk, Fulton, Haralson, Gwinnett, Douglas, DeKalb, Rockdale, Heard, Coweta, Fayette, Clayton, Spalding and Henry counties.

He told Patch the advisory is being issued due to heat index values of around 111 in the metro.

"It is going to be very hot," he said.

Marlow recommended postponing any outdoor activities Monday due to the heat. Temperatures will have a high of 97 and a low of 74 at nightfall.

Monday night is forecast to be partly cloudy.

Marlow said Tuesday's weather is expected to mimic Monday though a heat advisory is not currently in effect for Tuesday.

The weather Tuesday will mostly be sunny with a high of 89. Thunderstorms could arrive in the afternoon into the early evening. The rain should clear out by Wednesday.

High temperatures are forecast to be around 90 degrees the rest of the week, Marlow said.

As of 4:20 p.m. Monday, the weather service's weekly prediction is as follows:

This Afternoon: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 107. West wind around 10 mph.

Tonight: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. Southwest wind 5-10 mph.

Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Heat index values as high as 98. West wind 5-15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tuesday night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m, then a slight chance of showers between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. Northwest wind 5-10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 10 percent.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 86. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 66.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 90.

Thursday night: Clear, with a low around 66.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 93.

Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 70.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 94.
