Mom Who Left Down Syndrome Son At Hospital Released On Bond
A judge granted a signature bond Thursday for the mother who left her son with down syndrome at Grady Hospital.
ATLANTA, GA — The mother who was charged with first-degree child cruelty for leaving her special needs son at Grady Hospital earlier this month was granted permission to go home today, reports 11Alive. A group of mothers showed up at court on Thursday to support her.
Diana Elliott, 37, was captured on a surveillance video leaving Sheldon at the hospital. According to police Elliott, a mother of four, "indicated that she was overwhelmed caring for her son," therefore she decided to leave him at Grady was best. She was later found staying at a hotel in DeKalb County with the other children.
The Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta has created a fund for anyone who would like to donate to the family.

11Alive reporter Kaitlyn Ross shared in a Facebook post that “The judge granted her a signature bond after an incredible community of people came together to support her" and that the "Executive Director of the National Down Syndrome Association told me they are in this for as long as she needs support."
