Here are the top three stories today in Atlanta:

  1. With the festival season underway, visitors of city parks can expect to see more and more of the Atlanta Police Department Mounted Patrol. The purpose of the department's officers and horses is to prevent and reduce crime in the parks. "Our presence alone is great for crime suppression," said Lt. Greg Lyon. "People see us and decide maybe it's not a good idea to commit a crime with a horse around." (WSB Atlanta)
  2. Movie buffs won't want to miss the 46th annual Atlanta Film Festival + Creative Conference, scheduled for Apr. 21 to May 1. The 155 announced creative works will screen across Atlanta venues, including Plaza Theatre, Dad's Garage, and The Carter Center. For those who can't attend in person, screenings will also be held virtually via Eventine. Get all the details on the event at AtlantaFilmFestival.com. (Reporter Newspapers)
  3. A 24-year-old man died from an apparent gunshot wound on Sunday morning at an apartment complex off of West Marietta Street. Officers with the Atlanta Police Department found the wounded victim, who later succumbed to his injuries, outside an apartment at Westmar Student Lofts. According to Homicide Investigator Ralph Woolfolk, the event "appears to be a targeted, isolated incident." (FOX 5 Atlanta)
