The Most Common Presidential Road Names in Georgia

If you went through grade school in the states, you likely endured the daunting task of memorizing the ever growing list of U.S. Presidents. And even though much of that list has likely dwindled from your memory with age, there are certain presidential names that we couldn’t forget even if we tried. Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt, the list goes on. It is such presidents whose names have left an enduring legacy in our nation and, in doing so, have made their way into schools, museums, libraries and road signs all over the U.S.
And when it comes to road signs, Georgia is almost as presidential as states come. Here are a handful of streets named after Presidents in Georgia:

Lincoln

Given that Lincoln street tops the list of most common road names in America , it’s no surprise that this street name is pretty prevalent in the state of Georgia too. The list of cities in Georgia that have a Lincoln Street is lengthy. From Atlanta, to Savannah, to Statesboro, to Douglasville, and the list goes on. Needless to say, Honest Abe’s legacy is alive and well in the peach state.

Washington

With 966 roads across America named after our nation’s first president, Georgia is in good company when it comes to states that have a bounty of Washington Streets. If you were to drive through the state of Georgia, you might happen upon a Washington street in Atlanta, Newnan, Calhoun, Perry, or Savannah. Perhaps if President Washington had known Georgians loved him so much, he might’ve put Mount Vernon on the market.

Coolidge

If you’re wondering how Coolidge made this list, we can’t really blame you-- but bear with us. One study found that of all the Presidential roads in the U.S., homes on Coolidge street are the priciest-- with the median value being $176,330. So if you have 200 grand in your back pocket and are looking to move to Georgia, Coolidge Avenue in Columbus might be a good place to start your house hunt.

Roosevelt

Most remember Theodore Roosevelt as the President who said, “Speak softly and carry a big stick,” but if you’re from Georgia, you might know him as the President whose name graces many a street sign. Unless, of course, the Roosevelt road signs strewn across the state are referring to Teddy’s fifth cousin, Theodore Roosevelt, who was also a U.S. President. Regardless of which Roosevelt the roads are named after, one thing’s for sure-- you’ll almost certainly come across a Roosevelt road sign if you’re from Georgia. These signs are pretty much around every corner, from bigger, more well-known cities like Augusta and Atlanta to smaller cities like Vidalia.

Jefferson

Considering Thomas Jefferson was one of our nation’s founding fathers, it makes sense that so many roads across the country are named after him-- 374 to be exact. And this number would undoubtedly be smaller if the count excluded Georgia. Whether you’re cruising through Atlanta, Cedartown, or Chamblee you’ll eventually find yourself on a street named after President Jefferson. And get this, there’s even a Jefferson street in a town called Washington, Georgia. If you ever find yourself on this street, look out. The presidential thermometer in your car might just break.

We hate to break it to you, but now that you’re aware of just how many streets across the country are named after U.S. Presidents, your driving experience may never be the same.
