Here are the top 5 stories in Atlanta today:
- "High demand" for Chris Rock's comedy tour has translated into the addition of a second show at The Fox Theatre this summer. Rock's initial show July 29 quickly sold out after he was slapped on stage by award-winning actor Will Smith during the 94th annual Academy Awards Sunday in what has been dubbed the "slap heard around the world." Now fans who thought they missed a chance to see Rock, 57, live at The Fox will have another shot at snagging tickets for an 8 p.m. show Saturday, July 30. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. (Macon Telegraph)
- An off-duty Atlanta Police Department sergeant was robbed by three suspects Tuesday on Edgewood Avenue. According to Atlanta police officials, the officer was walking to his car at 1 p.m. when three suspects ran up, then one grabbed the sergeant's backpack and ran off. The other two suspects threatened bystanders with guns before running. No one was injured, police said, and the investigation is active. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Job hunters, here's a story for you. MARTA will hold a job fair Saturday, and is offering $3,000 sign-on bonuses. The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the MARTA headquarters located near the Lindbergh Center rail station on Piedmont Road in Atlanta. The company is looking to hire bus operators and journeyman bus technicians and will train all Permit and Class C license holders for their commercial driver's license. (CBS 46 News)
- As if the yellow coating blanketing cars and lawn furniture wasn't proof enough, now it's official: Atlanta's pollen count soared Wednesday on the first "extreme" day of the season. According to Atlanta Allergy & Asthma, which tracks the daily pollen count for the area, Wednesday marked the first "extremely high" day of the season so far, with an astronomical 2,431. To put that into perspective, no day yet this season had surpassed 1,000. Any pollen count above 1,500 is considered "extremely high" by Atlanta Allergy & Asthma. - Thanks to the organ donation of baby Grayson Fleming Gray, another baby's life has been saved. Two months after his death, Grayson's mother, Kerri Gray, said she's now finding a sense of peace, sharing an update on social media that Grayson is officially back on this earth somewhere since his organs have been donated. Six-month-old Grayson was struck and killed by a stray bullet while riding in a car with his mom in January near Atlanta's Anderson Park. Two people now face charges in his death. (11Alive.com WXIA)
