New Snowfall Estimates Released As Winter Storm Targets GA
Parts of Georgia are under a winter storm warning or winter weather advisory ahead of the predicted storm.
ATLANTA, GA — Parts of Georgia could see the first snowfall of the year as a winter storm takes aim at the state later this weekend.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for a portion of the Atlanta metro that will be in effect from 3 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. The advisory includes Newton, Morgan, Greene, Taliaferro, Spalding, Henry, Butts, Meriwether, Pike, Lamar and Harris counties.
Forecasters said snow or a rain/snow mix is expected south of the Interstate 85 corridor early Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon.

According to the agency, snow accumulations up to 1 inch are expected in the counties under the winter weather advisory and could result in slick roads, especially on bridges and overpasses.
"Slow down and use caution while traveling," the National Weather Service wrote. "The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 511."

The weather could also snarl travel plans as more snowfall is expected in other parts of the state.
According to the National Weather Service, Bibb, Twiggs, Wilkinson, Macon, Peach, Houston, Bleckley, Laurens, Sumter, Dooly, Crisp, Pulaski, Wilcox and Dodge counties are under a winter storm warning from 3 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Heavy snow is expected in the areas under the winter storm warning, with 1 to 3 inches of accumulation expected. The most impactful snow is predicted to fall from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.
According to forecasters, temperatures will fall below freezing after sunset on Sunday, resulting in possible black ice concerns for areas that see snowfall Sunday night and Monday morning.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. West wind around 5 mph.
Saturday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 40. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Sunday Night: Clear, with a low around 27. West wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.
Monday: Sunny, with a high near 47. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 24.
Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 42.
