'No War With Iran' Protests Set For Metro Atlanta Today

Three anti-war protests will be held in Marietta, Decatur and Norcross today. The groups are opposing a potential war with Iran.

ATLANTA, GA — “No War with Iran Day of Action” rallies will take place simultaneously in Decatur, Marietta and Norcross Thursday at 5 p.m. The protestors are opposing the possibility of a war after recent events between the U.S. and Iran have created rising tension.

The killing of top Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani by an U.S. airstrike led to Iran firing missile strikes at bases of U.S. troops in Iraq. There’s also speculation that Wednesday’s Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 flight was shot down by a missile from Iran. Authorities are investigating the crash.

According to the Associated Press, the House is set to vote today limiting President Donald Trump's ability to take military action against Iran. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced the plan in a one-page statement that said last week's drone strike that killed Gen. Qassem Soleimani was "provocative and disproportionate."

Protestors will come together this evening to show their solidarity and send a message.

“People in the United States and across the globe are tired of war—from the military families who have seen multiple generations serve in the same conflict, to the Iranian, Iraqi, and Afghan families in the United States who worry for their loved ones back home,” organizers posted on their event page.

“We will not be forced into another war,” organizers posted on their event page. “Trump's reckless action has needlessly endangered countless lives of U.S. troops, Iraqis, Iranians, and countless other civilians. The devastation that a war with Iran could bring upon the earth and humanity cannot be overstated—millions of lives hang in the balance. None of us will win, except politicians and corporations...”
