Nordstrom Stores In Atlanta Could Close

Nordstrom announced it will permanently close 16 of its 116 full-line stores around the country.

ATLANTA, GA — Nordstrom announced it will permanently close 16 of its 116 full-line stores around the country. There are two full-line Nordstrom stores in Atlanta, at Phipps Plaza and Perimeter Mall.

It couldn’t be immediately confirmed if those two stores are among those planned for closure, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Metro Atlanta has four Nordstrom Rack locations, which sell discounted goods. All Georgia Nordstrom locations have been temporarily closed since March 17 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Currently, both Phipps Plaza and Perimeter Mall locations offer curbside pick-up service for online orders.

Erik Nordstrom, chief executive officer of Nordstrom, Inc., said in a statement that the company made quick adjustments when the coronavirus pandemic hit the U.S. at the beginning of the year.

“We’ve been investing in our digital and physical capabilities to keep pace with rapidly changing customer expectations,” Nordstrom said. “The impact of COVID-19 is only accelerating the importance of these capabilities in serving customers. More than ever, we need to work with flexibility and speed. Our market strategy helps … to get products to customers faster, and connecting digital and physical experiences with services like curbside pickup and returns.”

The company said it’s preparing for the reopening of its remaining stores. There will be safety measures for employees and customers in place, which include social distancing, face masks, new fitting room procedures and altered hours of operations.
