Pet Owner Charged In Fatal Atlanta Dog Fight

The 40-year-old man was charged on suspicion of two county ordinance violations, nuisance animals and running at large (dogs).

ATLANTA, GA — The owner of a pit bull who was shot and killed during a dog attack Wednesday at West Peachtree Street is now facing charges, Atlanta Police said Thursday.

Police said Jason Bowman, 40, was charged on suspicion of two county ordinance violations, nuisance animals and running at large (dogs).

The pit bull was accused of attacking a Yorkshire Terrier, and when the dog owners could not break up the fight, the Yorkshire's owner fatally shot the pit bull, police said. The owner of the pit bull then fled from the scene, police said.

The Yorkshire was in critical condition and was taken to a local hospital by officers, police said.
