🌱 Police Chief Announces Retirement + Airport Pedestrian Accident

Here are the top three stories in Atlanta today:

  1. Chief Rodney Bryant will retire in June after serving with the City of Atlanta for 34 years. Bryant joined the force as an officer in 1988 and quickly rose through the ranks until his appointment as the department's 25th Chief in 2021. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens announced that the city will be searching for a new police chief using a national search. (City of Atlanta)
  2. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has announced a state of emergency due to supply chain disruptions and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The declaration went into effect this morning. The state of emergency will suspend the state and the federal limit on commercial driving hours. Price gouging at the fuel pump will also be prevented by the declaration. (Fox5 Atlanta)
  3. Management at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is reviewing its pedestrian safety measures after a motorist struck a woman and her two small children. The incident occurred when a ride-share driver struck the family while they were walking within a marked crosswalk. The driver is currently being held at the Clayton County jail while facing multiple traffic charges. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
