Police Officer Struck By Vehicle; Teenager Arrested

The vehicle, which was reported stolen, hit the officer in south Fulton County late Tuesday night.

ATLANTA, GA — Updated 9:30 am — A teenager has been arrested in connection with an incident in which an Atlanta police officer was struck by a stolen vehicle.

The incident happened late Tuesday night in south Fulton, according to WSB, around 11 pm. The officer was struck at Central Villa Drive and Campbellton Road.

The officer had stopped the vehicle and was running its plates when the incident happened. Police said the driver sped off after the officer asked the driver to get out of the car. The SUV door knocked the officer down, and the driver allegedly ran over the officer's legs.

Police chased the vehicle into East Point. Police say the driver abandoned the vehicle but was eventually taken into custody.

Police believe the teen, whose name has not been released, is a runaway.

The officer was taken to a nearby hospital and is alert, but no other details have been released.
