RED Charity Football Tourney to Include Court Program Participants

Teams to play in Georgia Dome, Raise money to End Recidivism

Atlanta based non-profit RED (Rehabilitation Enables Dreams, Inc.) announces its first charity Flag Football Tournament in the Georgia Dome on Sunday, November 20th.

The RED Flag Football Tournament will include 16 teams formed by local individuals, corporations, public servants, nonprofit organizations, football enthusiasts and RED supporters. The Dekalb County Solicitor General's Office and the P.A.L. (Police Athletic League) Atlanta Police Department program are among the teams taking the field to raise awareness of ending recidivism among metro Atlanta offenders.

Teens and young adults currently excelling in pre and post adjudication court-ordered rehabilitation programs will be included on the roster of each participating team.

“We are bringing the entire community together - law enforcement, ministry, corporations, educational institutions, political leaders and so many more, to raise money for programs that will give many young adults a second chance at life,” said RED Founder David Lee Windecher. “I want to show kids who are growing up in the grip of poverty, kids who have been beaten down by their circumstances, kids who think it’s too late for them, that they, too, can overcome,” Windecher said.

All proceeds from the RED Flag Football Tournament will fund RED’s anti-recidivism research and the engineering of rehabilitation programs for first-time, nonviolent, youthful offenders.

RED Founder David Lee Windecher is a criminal defense attorney licensed to practice in Georgia and Florida.

Prior to being sworn into the Georgia and Florida Bar, Windecher was an impoverished minority who became a habitual offender who was arrested 13 times and spent over 7 months incarcerated as a juvenile. He dropped out of high school and joined a criminal street gang in an attempt to overcome his poverty stricken life.

Windecher began his path to rehabilitation when he received his GED in March of 1998 and took his first academic step toward becoming a dual-licensed practitioner. He understands that people can overcome their worst struggles but emphasizes that for one to become the best version of themselves they must have hope. Through RED, Windecher aims to create a network of opportunity that prevents people from returning to crime.
