Report: Facebook Data Center In Atlanta Expected

Gov. Nathan Deal has announced plans for an economic development announcement Wednesday afternoon.

ATLANTA, GA — Gov. Nathan Deal plans to make a major economic development announcement and reports are that it could be a massive Facebook data center coming to metro Atlanta.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Deal's announcement is expected to be that Facebook will be building a data center near Social Circle. The AJC report cites unnamed "people familiar with the matter."

A data center complex has reportedly been under way at Stanton Springs, an industrial park about 40 miles east of downtown Atlanta along Interstate 20.

Metro Atlanta has become a popular spot for data centers, where computer servers that store information and help power the internet are kept. The area is favored as a location for the centers because it is relatively safe from natural disasters and has solid power and internet infrastructures.
