ATLANTA ­– Keith Meadows, the first chief for the city of South Fulton Police Department and a Saint Leo University alumnus, will give the commencement address for the university’s Atlanta region and Columbus, Miss., students.

This year’s graduation ceremony for Saint Leo students from the Atlanta and Gwinnett education centers as well as the Columbus Education Center and the Center for Online Learning, will take place at noon, Saturday, June 15, at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30339.

Degrees will be conferred to about 190 students. Most students, close to 100, will receive their Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, while about 70 will earn master’s degrees. In addition, about 20 students will earn their associate degrees.

Giving the Class of 2019 farewell will be Barbara W. Smith, who is graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. Leading the graduates in the traditional turning of the tassels on their mortarboards and welcoming the new alumni will be Edward Restrepo, Class of 2018. The Clayton County Police Department Honor Guard will present the colors for the ceremony.

Commencement speaker Meadows graduated from Saint Leo in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. The police chief has as 33 years of law enforcement experience. Meadows has integrated intelligence-driven policing as a philosophy for the South Fulton Police Department. He increased the size of the department’s gang and narcotics units, developed an assets forfeiture unit, and created a robust crime analysis platform that will serve as a foundation for the department.

The Saint Leo University Atlanta Education Center is in the “heart of Buckhead” at Lindbergh City Center. Its address is 2450 Piedmont Road N.E., Suite 200, Atlanta, GA 30324. The Gwinnett Education Center is at 3555 Koger Blvd., Clarkston Building, Suite 105, Duluth, GA 30096, and the Columbus Education Center is at Columbus Air Force Base, 81 Fifth St., Suite 11, Columbus AFB, MS 39710.
