FULTON COUNTY, GA — Parents and students, get ready. The first day of school for the 2023-24 year is approaching.

With the start of the new school year nearing, back-to-school events are being held throughout Fulton County to prepare students.

So, if you are looking to have fun with the family and fill your backpacks with supplies, you may want to check out these back-to-school events in your area.

The Cascade United Methodist Church in Midtown is hosting its Back to School Giveaway immediately following its 9:45 a.m. worship service Sunday.

The event is set to end at 2 p.m. and will be held at 458 Ponce de Leon Ave. NE. According to organizers on Eventbrite, the free giveaway will include light refreshments.

A GoFundMe fundraiser will benefit the Safe Spot's Back 2 School Giveaway.

The Back-to-School Bash and Community Health Day is being hosted by The Gathering Place Community Center Saturday in Union City.

The bash will be held from 9 a.m.-noon, 6280 Bryant St.

According to the organizers, clear backpacks with supplies will be given away at the event. There will be games and food available, and guests will be able to get health screenings.

The City of Sandy Springs will host a back-to-school National Night Out next week.

The free family event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at City Springs, 1 Galambos Way. The city's firefighters, police officers and staff at the Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks Department.

Guests will be able to tour police cars, fire trucks, the mobile command center and SWAT trucks, according to organizers. A helicopter landing on Mount Vernon Highway is planned.

There will also be an inflatable obstacle course, food and a DJ.

CMY and the Share Ministry will give away free food and supplies Saturday at the Free Food Saturday Back to School Edition.

The event will be sponsored from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at 3000 Webb Bridge Road in Alpharetta.

A list of school supplies that will be donated can be found here. Donations are being accepted until noon Friday.

The Have a Heart Back 2 School Bash will take place Saturday in Atlanta.

The event will start at noon at 823 Dill Ave. SW.

Games, music and giveaways are planned, and there will be food and sno cones, according to organizers. Activities will include face painting and bounce houses. A DJ will be present.
