Scavenger Hunt Helps Unravel Buckhead's History
Participants hit the streets for "Buckhead's Hidden Secrets: A History Scavenger Hunt," sponsored by the Buckhead Heritage Society
More than 100 participants hit the streets for the “Third Annual Buckhead’s Hidden Secrets: A History Scavenger Hunt,” sponsored by the Buckhead Heritage Society. Proceeds from the event will benefit the non-profit organization’s mission to identify, preserve and promote Buckhead’s historic resources.
“Buckhead Heritage’s annual Scavenger Hunt is truly the most fun event on Atlanta’s spring calendar,” said Tamara Bazzle, the Society’s president. “This year we were particularly pleased to honor three women who have given so much to Buckhead Heritage and the larger Atlanta community: Belle Turner Lynch, Penny Hart and Barbara Bazzel.”
Guests gathered at the historic Atlanta International School for hors d’oeuvres and drinks. In teams, guests competed against each other to solve clues, seek out historic locations and take photos related to the community’s past. Each successfully resolved clue was worth points.

After the Hunt, participants returned to the school for a delicious buffet from Lovies “Smoked Comfort” BBQ and J. Christopher’s (Peachtree Hills).
“This was my first Scavenger Hunt as Executive Director,” said Richard Waterhouse. “I was so impressed by the enthusiasm of the Board, our volunteers and the participants. I kept hearing from everyone that, through the clues, they learned facts about Buckhead they never knew. This event clearly follows our mission of educating our members about the preservation and history of Buckhead. We could not do such a labor-intensive event without our volunteers.”
