South Fulton Blaze Damages Several Businesses

SOUTH FULTON, GA — Multiple businesses were damaged in a fire early Tuesday morning.

The two-alarm fire broke out in the 100 block of Selig Drive around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

South Fulton Fire Lt. Eric Jackson said there were no injuries.

Seven of the eight companies in the commercial business plaza had smoke or water damage, with Atlanta Custom Iron Works bearing the brunt of the damage.

Jackson confirmed Atlanta Custom was storing propane tanks at the time of the fire.

"Without a doubt, that business is destroyed," Jackson said.

Firefighters did not enter any of the businesses due to oxygen tanks, propane tanks, propane fuel forklifts and painting products all placed indoors.

"It was a fire that we fought from the outside because of the items that were inside," Jackson said.

Though fire officials have not determined the cause or origin of the fire, Jackson said it was heavily concentrated in Atlanta Custom. Four of the businesses were "badly damaged" due to being near Atlanta Custom, he said.

It took crews short of two hours to extinguish.

Atlanta Fire Rescue assisted South Fulton Fire Rescue. At least 35 firefighters responded to the scene.
