These Are GA's Best Graduate Schools, U.S. News Says In New Ranking

Eight colleges in Georgia were ranked among the Best Graduate Schools in the country by U.S. News and World Report, which released its annual rankings Tuesday.

The rankings, intended as a guide for prospective graduate students, evaluate programs in a variety of disciplines, including engineering, medicine, business, law, education, nursing and social sciences.

In Georgia, the following institutions made the top three statewide in their rankings:

Best Business Schools

• Emory University (Goizueta), Atlanta, No. 23 (tie) nationally
• University of Georgia (Terry), Athens, No. 25 (tie) nationally
• Georgia Institute of Technology (Scheller), Atlanta, No. 27 (tie) nationally

Best Law Schools

• University of Georgia, Athens, No. 26 (tie) nationally
• University of Florida (Levin), Gainesville, No. 34 (tie) nationally
• Emory University, Atlanta, No. 40 nationally

Best Medical Schools (Research)

• Emory University, Atlanta, Tier 1
• Augusta University, Augusta, Tier 3
• Mercer University, Macon, unranked

Best Engineering Schools (Only two Georgia schools made this ranking.)

• Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, No. 4
• University of Georgia, Athens, No. 114

Best Nursing Schools: Master's

• Emory University (Woodruff), Atlanta, No. 1
• Augusta University, Augusta, No. 79 (tie)
• Mercer University (Baptist), Atlanta, No. 92 (tie)

Best Education Schools

• Georgia State University, Atlanta, No. 41 (tie)
• University of Georgia (Early), Athens, No. 41 (tie)
• Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, No. 144 (tie)

Because each program is different, the rankings methodologies vary by discipline and graduate degree level.

3. Rush University

Best Fine Arts Schools: Master’s (MFA)

1. Yale University

2. Carnegie Mellon University (tie)

Schools placing in the top tier include the following: Baylor College of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University, Emory University, Mayo Clinic School of Medicine (Alix), Ohio State University, University of California – Los Angeles (Geffen), University of California – San Diego, University of California – San Francisco, University of Colorado, University of Florida, University of Pittsburgh, University of Rochester, University of South Florida (Morsani), University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Vanderbilt University, Yale University.

Best Medical Schools: Primary Care
