Here are the top five stories in Atlanta today:
- Formerly incarcerated individuals have been added to Atlanta's list of protected classes. The decision was handed down by the Atlanta City Council, which amends the city's Code of Ordinances, to prevent discrimination against individuals based on their criminal history. The amendment was unanimously voted in on Monday. The Code of Ordinances' protected classes also prevents anyone from being discriminated against due to race, color, creed, sex, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, age, or disability, to name just a few. - A woman was accidentally shot in midtown Atlanta on Wednesday. The shooting incident took place in the early morning and involved multiple cars shooting at each other on 17th Street. The woman was caught in the crossfire while waiting at a stoplight. She was rushed to the hospital where she was reported in stable condition. No arrests have been made as of Wednesday evening. - Multiple people were injured and others are still missing after a massive house fire swept through the 7200 block of Oswego Trail on Wednesday morning. First responders arrived in the early morning to find the two-story, single-family home ablaze. It took over 45 minutes to get the fire under control. The residents of the home were asleep when the fire began; several were rushed to the hospital, but others remained unaccounted for as of Wednesday evening. (Patch)
- On Wednesday night, Mayor Andre Dickens hosted a public town hall conversation. The meeting was held at 6:00 p.m. at the Cascade United Methodist Church in Atlanta. The town hall was free to attend, and members of the public were encouraged to ask questions and get involved. This was the first of three public town halls Dickens intends to hold throughout the month of October. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
